Chelsea set to keep out-of-favour player to help Xabi Alonso to settle into new job

Chelsea do not have many leaders awaiting the arrival of Xabi Alonso in the squad, and this is why they are not currently pushing Tosin Adarabioyo towards the exit door.

Alonso officially gets to work at the start of July, but will already be making decisions on which players in the squad he wants to keep.

The Spaniard wants to keep Josh Acheampong and is set to give him an improved role after not receiving many minutes under the reign of Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior.

What is Xabi Alonso’s number one priority as soon as he walks through those doors?🤔

Chelsea to keep Tosin Adarabioyo because of his leadership

The youngster spent a lot of time on the bench, where he was frequently alongside Tosin Adarabioyo as he struggled for minutes too.

As the club’s oldest outfield player, Tosin performs the role of a leader in the dressing room, something the Blues are lacking with their youthful and inexperienced squad.

Chelsea desperately need these figures in the squad, and according to The Athletic, this is valued by the club as something which makes him stand out amongst other defenders in the squad.

The report goes on to say that the Blues have not currently asked him to find a new club, while Benoit Badiashile and Trevoh Chalobah have been told to expect to drop down the pecking order.

Axel Disasi will also return to the club, however doesn’t seem to have a future and is being earmarked for a move away this summer.

If Chelsea signed Marquinhos, where would you rank him among the Premier League’s top centre-backs?

Tosin finds himself out of Chelsea’s plans on the pitch

Barring 90 minutes in the FA Cup semi-final against Leeds, appearances were very hard for the big defender to come by in the latter stages of the season.

He played just 45 Premier League minutes since March, and was not in favour under the leadership of Calum McFarlane.

However, it is a positive sign that Chelsea have acknowledged their need to address the lack of leadership in the squad, even if the players are not in the starting XI.

The impact of John Terry was massive on the squad during the 2016/17 Premier League title-winning campaign, even though he hardly featured on the pitch.
