Report: Milan, Chelsea and Man City ‘in talks’ over Wigan Athletic teenager

AC Milan are one of the teams in talks to sign Wigan Athletic talent Harrison Bettoni, according to a report from England.

Milan have shown a willingness to invest in young talent since the creation of the Milan Futuro project. In the past 12 months the likes of Zachary Athekame, David Odogu and Alphadjo Cisse have all joined the club for fees totalling over €10m.

If Ralf Rangnick were to arrive, it is likely that the focus would be even more youth-oriented rather than perhaps going for those at the end of their careers like Luka Modric.

Bettoni talks held

According to journalist Pete O’Rourke, Manchester City, Chelsea and Milan are ‘in talks to sign Wigan youngster Harrison Bettoni’. The attacking midfielder is available as a free agent, with Wigan due training compensation from whoever he joins.

The 18-year-old has made 27 appearances across all competitions for Wigan, scoring four goals for the senior team. Of those, 21 were in League One – the third tier of English football – as were three of the goals.

Back in November, Bettoni announced himself in a big way as he came on against AFC Wimbledon with Wigan 1-0 down. He scored a free-kick with his first ever touch in League One, and then netted a late winner at the Brick Community Stadium.
