Manchester City‘s Nathan Aké didn’t have an important role at the Premier League side this season.
Outgoing manager Pep Guardiola handed the Netherlands international 688 minutes from 18 Premier League matches, which includes six starts.
This didn’t stop the Manchester City man from making it Ronald Koeman’s squad for the World Cup. However, it could make the centre-back consider changing clubs this summer.
Barcelona have identified the 31-year-old as a low-cost option to improve their defence.
Last month, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain the Citizens won’t offer a discount to Barca, who are their Champions League rivals. His salary is also a problem for the La Liga winners.
Turkey option for Manchester City player
Nathan Aké could have an opportunity to make a switch to Turkey where Fenerbahçe can be an option, according to Fotomaç.
The Yellow Canaries will have an election this weekend and their former president, Aziz Yıldırım, is running for the same role.
Yıldırım has talked about the importance of strengthening the defence and Aké is his top target.
He recently made a trip to England to hold talks with Manchester City over for the centre-back. The presidential candidate would bring the Dutchman to Istanbul if he were to win the upcoming election.
The Etihad club are demanding a €11m and the former AFC Bournemouth man wants a €6m per year salary excluding bonuses. Yıldırım insists he could meet both their demands and would push for this transfer if elected as new Fenerbahçe president.
There’s no mention whether the player is open to making a switch to Turkey. If he decides to leave Manchester City, he’s likely to have options from a top five European leagues.
Summer exit on cards
The defender has 13 months left on his contract and is valued at €15m by Transfermarkt.
Manchester City are yet to confirm Pep Guardiola’s successor, but Nathan Aké is unlikely to be a key part of the next manager’s plans.
Therefore, a move away from the Etihad this summer could be on the cards. This would improve his chances of featuring regularly next season.
