Chelsea will be looking to make changes this summer, but we may see fewer, more expensive deals incoming.

The summer transfer window is here, and while that means no more Chelsea games, it does mean the return of the “Deal Sheet” from the Athletic with updates on many Blues rumours.

To start with, their summary of our situation lays out what we’ve known for a while – “Chelsea intend to buy a minimum of two ready made players who are able to go straight into the first XI.”

That doesn’t rule us out from also spending on yet more young talents – but fans frustrated by our recent moves should be hopeful we can make concrete improvements to our starters in a way we largely failed to last summer.

Named specifically as targets are a “flexible attacker who can play in multiple positions” and “one centre back.” Further changes will depend on sales.

Morgan Rogers is mentioned as a player who would fill that first gap. Meanwhile free agent Ibrahima Konate is name checked as a defender who could be that “one centre back.”

It should also be kept in mind that deals for Geovany Quenda, Emmanuel Emegha and likely Valentin Barco have already been concluded.

In other news…

Chelsea interest in a rising French goalkeeper has been dismissed by sources today.

Chelsea have yet to put a price tag on Marc Cucurella, and there is a very simple reason for that according to people on the inside at the club.
