Chelsea can make‘significant offer’to defender as Real Madrid walk away

A transfer battle is taking shape as Chelsea looks to pounce on Ibrahima Konate’s contract situation, with the Frenchman set to leave Liverpool.

Chelsea are prioritising the addition of a senior centre-back to stabilise their vulnerable backline.

Liverpool’s announcement that Ibrahima Konate will depart Anfield as a free agent has immediately put Stamford Bridge chiefs on high alert. The Blues have actively registered their interest by lodging a gentle inquiry into the French international’s situation, recognising his proven Premier League pedigree.

However, the move hinges entirely on navigating the 27-year-old’s massive financial expectations, especially with teams like Real Madrid and from Saudi Arabia in the race.

Door opens for Chelsea to make Ibrahima Konate an offer

Journalist Marco Barzaghi has claimed that Chelsea are able to make Ibrahima Konate a significant offer on his YouTube channel.

“Liverpool have to replace Konate, who is having to decide what to do with his future.

“He is currently asking for wages that only Saudi Arabia would accept, too high.

“Chelsea are said to be able to make him a significant offer. Real Madrid seems unconvinced and are interested in other targets. If Konate were to lower his demands, I think he’d be a no-brainer.”

Chelsea should follow suit unless Ibrahima Konate drops his demands

Chelsea should firmly walk away from negotiations with Ibrahima Konate unless he significantly drops his wage demands.

Of course, signing a player of his stature on a free transfer sounds enticing on paper, but going overboard on a massive financial package is a gamble Stamford Bridge cannot afford.

The Frenchman’s recent campaign was marred by inconsistency, highlighted by defensive lapses during matches against Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, and Manchester United.

For a club desperate to build under Xabi Alonso, overpaying for an erratic performer whose wage demands have already alienated Real Madrid would be an incredibly reckless misstep.
