Former Premier League star Joe Cole has asked Arsenal to make a cheeky bid to sign an exiting Manchester City star in the summer.
Portugal midfielder Bernardo Silva announced his decision to leave Manchester City in April. He spent nine successful seasons at the Manchester club before deciding to leave them this summer.
After joining the Cityzens from Monaco in 2017, Silva has racked up 76 goals and 77 assists in 460 appearances for the club. He won 6 PL titles and helped the club win their first-ever UEFA Champions League title during his 9-year stint, which saw him pick up 18 trophies.
Arsenal, who broke their 22-year wait to win the Premier League, are reportedly interested in signing the Portuguese midfielder as a free agent. The Gunners are looking to reinforce their squad in the summer, and Joe Cole has urged them to explore a deal for Silva.
Speaking to The Dressing Room Podcast, Cole proposed (via Metro):
"Would you make a cheeky bid for Bernardo Silva if he’s not sorted somewhere? Come and live in London!
When asked if he'd be the right fit for Arsenal as they need someone who has a superior work-rate, Cole said:
"Mate, he puts a shift in. He covers some ground."
Silva, for his part, is reportedly keen on joining Barcelona and has already reached an agreement with the club after backing from club president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco. Despite receiving a lower financial package, Silva is keen to become a part of Hansi Flick's squad.
Other clubs like Atletico Madrid and Juventus are also in the race to sign the Portugal midfielder, but Silva has his heart set on a move to Barcelona.
