Paul Dalglish, the son of Sir Kenny Dalglish, has sent a message of support to his father after he confirmed he is receiving treatment for cancer. The Liverpool legend confirmed the diagnosis on Tuesday, having mistakenly posted about his treatment earlier in the day.
The 75-year-old said in a statement: “As my inadvertent social media post has indicated, I am currently undergoing treatment for cancer. Unlike my mobile phone use, the treatment is going well.
“Ideally, this would have remained private because that’s the way it should be, but my useless technology skills have forced my hand. Obviously I did not mean to make this matter public so I would appreciate it if the privacy of my family and myself are respected.
“As ever, thank you to the wonderful medical staff who have shown incredible care and discretion, not just for me but for many, many others. They are a credit to themselves.”
Sharing his dad’s statement on social media, Paul Dalglish wrote: “My Dad is my hero, my best mate, & the strongest man I know. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from him, it’s how to face challenges with courage, humour, & dignity
"The treatment is going well & he’ll handle this the same way he’s handled everything else in life Love you, Dad.”
Dalglish is widely considered Liverpool’s greatest player. He won eight league titles and three European Cups as a player and manager at the club between 1979 and 1990. In a statement, Liverpool said: “The support, best wishes and love of everyone at Liverpool FC are, and will be, with Sir Kenny and his family. The club would also like to underscore his request for privacy moving forward.”

Reacting to the news on social media, Steven Gerrard wrote: “Sending our love Sir Kenny.” While Alan Shearer, whom Dalglish managed to the Premier League title at Blackburn Rovers in 1995, posted: “Everyone is with you Kenny.”
Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler wrote: “Sending you lots of love Sir king”. Jamie Carragher also wrote: “Sending all our love Kenny.”
Jordan Henderson, Andy Robertson and Harvey Elliott all replied to Dalglish’s Instagram post with a red heart emoji. Former Reds goalkeeper Sander Westerveld wrote: “YNWA, King!”
While another of Dalglish’s former clubs, Newcastle United, posted: “Everyone at Newcastle United extends love and best wishes to Sir Kenny Dalglish and his family following his cancer diagnosis.”
