Powerhouse‘strikes summer agreement’with decision on joining Chelsea made!

Real Madrid are closing in on the signing of French defender Ibrahima Konate on a free transfer following his departure from Liverpool, according to the latest reports, with transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano indicating that the centre-back is now assessing his next destination after deciding to leave Anfield.

Konate is one of the most high-profile free agents of the summer after contract negotiations with Liverpool collapsed. Romano reported that discussions over a new deal broke down despite progress being made on salary and contract length, with disagreements over bonus structures ultimately preventing an agreement.

The France international’s exit represents a significant blow for Liverpool, who had hoped to retain one of the cornerstones of their defence. Konate joined the Merseyside club from RB Leipzig in 2021 and went on to make more than 180 appearances, helping Liverpool win major domestic honours during his five-year stay.

CHELSEA had been linked with a move for the defender, while Bayern Munich and clubs from Saudi Arabia were also reported to be monitoring the situation. However, Real Madrid have emerged as the favourites to secure his signature, with several reports suggesting the Spanish giants have already advanced negotiations over a long-term contract.

The move would continue Madrid’s recent strategy of capitalising on elite free-agent opportunities. The club has previously benefited from high-profile Bosman arrivals and views Konate as an important addition to strengthen its defensive options for the coming seasons.

Reports in Spain indicate that the Frenchman has been identified as a priority target amid concerns over depth and long-term succession planning at centre-back.

Konate’s potential arrival could also see him reunite with former Liverpool teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold, who previously made the move to the Santiago Bernabéu. Reports from England suggest Real Madrid have offered the defender a multi-year contract and are confident of finalising the deal ahead of the new campaign.

While an official announcement has yet to be made, the latest indications point toward Konate continuing his career in Spain, bringing an end to Liverpool’s efforts to keep the French international at Anfield and handing Real Madrid another major coup in the transfer market
