Why Ravens’ Rashod Bateman has been absent from voluntary workouts

As the Baltimore Ravens enter their 2026 season, they're hopeful Rashod Bateman can be a crucial part of the offense. However, thus far, he has been absent from voluntary workouts.

It doesn't seem like any controversy is brewing though. Personal issues off the field have kept him away from the Ravens. New offensive coordinator Declan Doyle remains excited to utilize Bateman in his offense, via Jamison Hensley of ESPN.

“He's dealing with some personal things and so he hasn't been here for a little bit,” OC Declan Doyle said. “I'm excited for him to get back in here in and keep rolling.”

When that opportunity will come is yet to be seen, although the Ravens will want Bateman to participate come training camp. At the very least, Baltimore seems aware of what is going on with Bateman and his personal issue. For now, it doesn't seem like it'll be a long-term issue. Still, the Ravens and their fans will want to see quarterback Lamar Jackson connect with Bateman at some point during the offseason.

The wide receiver will now be entering his sixth season in Baltimore. Over 64 total games, he has caught 157 passes for 2,147 yards and 15 touchdowns. During the 2025 season, Bateman made just 19 catches for 224 yards and two touchdowns. But just a year prior, the receiver set new career-highs with 756 yards and nine touchdowns on 45 receptions.

Doyle and the Ravens are looking for Bateman to return to that type of production in 2026. But the first order of business is simply getting the wide receiver back on the field.
