Marcus Rashford’s future is up in the air after Barcelona made a swift move for Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon.
The former Everton flier became the first big name Premier League transfers of the summer earlier this week when he completed a £70million move to Camp Nou.
That came against a backdrop of uncertainty around Rashford’s situation, having rekindled his career at Barca and done well enough not only to help Hansi Flick’s men win La Liga but regain his place in the England squad for the upcoming World Cup.
According to The i Paper, Barca view Gordon’s transfer as a separate situation and still have the funds to finance a move for the former Aston Villa loanee if they want to.
How much they are willing to pay, though, is a different matter and the article has said there is a will to retain the 28-year-old and Barca have until June 15 to trigger the £26m option in the loan deal.
However, The i Paper cite sources in Spain as saying they ‘simply do not intend to come close to that figure’, amid considerations about his age and wages and that an offer of around £15m is more likely, if it even comes at all.

The story adds parent club Manchester United intend to try to move Rashford’s current contract, which still has another two years, off their books.
That could leave Rashford looking at other options and the report links Villa as one of three Premier League clubs ‘monitoring the situation’.
Newcastle are named, as are Tottenham who would be keen on his experience. Villa ‘could also re-sign’ a player who spent the second half of the 2024/25 campaign on loan with them.
In a recent social media post Rashford went as far as publicly thanking Unai Emery – and Flick – for helping him rediscover his form after his difficult time under Ruben Amorim.
