Premier League club 'braced' for Champions League interest in former Sheffield United star

Former Sheffield United man Iliman Ndiaye could reportedly be on the move from Everton this summer.

Everton are reportedly preparing themselves for a battle to keep hold of former Sheffield United attacker Iliman Ndiaye in this summer’s transfer window.

According to a report by The Athletic, the Toffees are ‘braced for a fight’ to retain his services this summer after he ‘rejected multiple new deals’ this season.

Ndiaye, who spent four years at Bramall Lane before departing in August 2023 to join French club Marseille, has three years remaining on his existing deal at Everton, but the Premier League club had been keen to reward his strong early-season form with a new contract that would have reportedly made him one of the club’s top earners.

The Senegal international, who has been included in their squad for this summer’s World Cup, joined Everton in July 2024 for a reported fee of £15million. United inserted a sell-on clause into the deal that saw him join Marseille the previous summer as well as rights to match any offer Marseille accepted for him.

It was reported by The Star in June 2024 that United would bank 20 per cent of any profit made by Marseille on the sale of the forward.

The 26-year-old’s first two seasons at Everton have yielded 17 goals across all competitions, including six in the Premier League this season. He has 15 goals in 66 Premier League appearances.

It has been reported by The Athletic that discussions between Everton and Ndyaie’s camp have been ‘ongoing since the start of the year’. However, Ndiaye and his team of representatives have so far rejected ‘a number of offers’ to sign a new deal.

The report also states that ‘interest is anticipated from Champions League clubs this summer’. No clubs have been credited with interest in the report.

Furthermore, following England winger Anthony Gordon’s recent €80million switch to Barcelona from Newcastle United, it is claimed that Everton could follow suit and are ‘likely to place a prohibitive valuation’ on Ndiaye in an effort to try and deter suitors.

Ndiaye, who scored 22 gals in 88 games for the Blades, is not said to have expressed a desire to leave the Hill Dickinson Stadium this summer.
