It hasn’t been the easiest campaign for Alexis Mac Allister.

The Argentine midfielder, who was so instrumental in Liverpool’s Premier League title triumph in 2024/25, found the 2025/26 season a far tougher ride.

Like many of his teammates, his form dipped as the club stumbled to a fifth-place Premier League finish – a disappointing return for a side that had been champions just twelve months prior. Questions over his future at Anfield have only grown louder as a result.

Mac Allister’s current deal runs until June 2028, but his father and agent Carlos Mac Allister has been unambiguous about where negotiations stand. “Alexis is under contract until June 2028 and, at this moment, we are not holding public talks with any other club – and so far, the club has not negotiated with us to renew the contract,” Carlos told winwin.com.

Now, according to a report from Spanish outlet El Desmarque, Real Madrid have entered the picture in a significant way.

The club are said to have Mac Allister firmly on their radar as a top target for the upcoming summer transfer window, which opens on July 1 – with his signing dependent on the outcome of the club’s presidential elections between Florentino Perez and challenger Enrique Riquelme.

Should Perez retain the presidency, the report indicates that Mac Allister would be actively pursued as part of a midfield overhaul at the Bernabeu. The Spanish giants believe his struggles this season are more a reflection of Liverpool’s collective difficulties than any decline in quality.

The report adds he would be open to pursuing a move to LaLiga, with his unresolved contract situation leaving the door ajar for other offers to come in.

Real Madrid have repeatedly been linked with a move for Mac Allister in the last few seasons, although it remains to be seen whether the La Liga giants will make a concrete offer this summer.
