A new Serie A club has joined the race to sign Federico Chiesa from Liverpool this summer, with the 28-year-old potentially on the way out of Anfield just two years after arriving for a fee of around $13 million (£10 million).

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, Cesc Fabregas' Como, who have qualified for the Champions League next season, are the latest side to show an interest in Chiesa.

Como needs a bigger roster to be able to cope with playing in Europe next term, and Fabregas is said to be keen on Chiesa, who has experience of playing at the highest level with Liverpool, Juventus and Italy.

AC Milan, AS Roma, and Napoli are among the other teams that have been linked with Chiesa in recent months. A return to his homeland could make sense for the forward.

Although Chiesa did make 36 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions last term, three goals and laying on another three assists, he only started five times, and only one start was in the league.

Arne Slot barely used Chiesa in the two years that they were at Anfield together, though the latter did post a message on Instagram after the former was fired.

"Thank you gaffer for everything," Chiesa wrote, alongside a picture of the pair embracing. "Good luck for your future."

Should Chiesa move to Como, he could return to Anfield later this summer to play against Liverpool. The Reds have organized two friendlies on home soil in the lead-up to the new Premier League season.

Andoni Iraola's first game at Anfield could be against AS Monaco on Sunday, August 9. A week later, on Sunday, August 16, the Reds will play Como.

The new season is set to begin on the weekend of August 22/23, with the Premier League fixture schedule to be released on Friday, June 19.

Liverpool.com says: While a change of head coach will offer a clean slate for some players, it is hard to see a pathway to minutes for Chiesa at Anfield. The Italian simply hasn't been fit enough so far.

Iraola's aggressive pressing is unlikely to be something that he excels at on the evidence of the last two years. An exit seems fairly likely this summer, though Liverpool cannot leave itself short in attack.

With Mohamed Salah having already left and Hugo Ekitike out injured for the long-term, there is already a need for more numbers. Losing Chiesa, even though he hasn't played much, would be another body down.
