One of the bigger storylines surrounding Chelsea at the moment is that of the potential exit of Marc Cucurella, who has reportedly been discontent with the club’s recent performance in the Premier League, finishing in tenth place during the previous campaign. This means that there will be no European football at Stamford Bridge for the upcoming campaign, a massive draw for players wanting to hone their skills against the continent’s best.
If Cucurella gets his move out of the Premier League, with several La Liga sides interested in acquiring his services, it would leave Chelsea with the task of finding his replacement, but it appears that, according to a recent report, they already have.
Chelsea is looking towards the Serie A
As explained by Gazzetta’s Fabio Russo, the Blues have been interested in acquiring Andrea Cambiaso, who is currently in the Serie A with Juventus.
“Chelsea are interested, with Xabi Alonso on the bench, having already reportedly wanted the Italian winger last year at Real Madrid,” reports Russo.
The West London club’s interest in the Italian comes after what was an individually productive season, as he was an anchor on the defensive end at the Allianz Stadium, recording 23 interceptions and winning 48 tackles across 47 appearances.
As previously reported, Chelsea are looking to sell Cucurella for a price in the range of £61 million, meaning they’ll have some money to splash on his replacement. This would be perfect for acquiring the Italian, as Russo reports that Juventus is looking to part with him for somewhere between € 40 and € 50 million.
“The winger is no longer considered unsellable, especially considering that his low balance sheet balance would guarantee a very large capital gain in the event of a sale of between 40 and 50 million,” reports Russo.
For Cambiaso, the move would be to what could be considered, to some, a bigger league and club, even, but still wouldn’t guarantee any Champions League football, as Juventus also missed out on qualifying for the top European competition.
