Liverpool could be “prepared” to sell Dominik Szoboszlai in the summer transfer window, according to a significant new update regarding his future.
The Hungarian was the Reds’ Player of the Year in 2025/26, often performing admirably while others around him toiled throughout the campaign.
Szoboszlai only has two years remaining on his current deal, however, and he has been linked with signing for Real Madrid in the past, potentially joining former Liverpool teammates Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ibrahima Konate there.
Writing on X, a respected source claimed that the Reds won’t hesitate to sell the 25-year-old if contract talks fail to progress at Anfield this summer:
“Liverpool is currently in serious discussions with Dominik Szoboszlai about extending his contract. The club is looking to improve his personal package to ensure they don’t face another situation like with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ibrahima Konaté, ‘who both left on free transfers.
“This time, Liverpool is taking a proactive approach. With just two years left on Szoboszlai’s deal, they’re not willing to let it run down. If talks don’t progress, the club is prepared to sell him this summer.
“It’s a clear message: Liverpool is prioritizing contract management and won’t let valuable players slip away without a fight. The stakes are high, and the pressure is on for both sides to reach an agreement.”
Should Liverpool cash in on Dominik Szoboszlai this summer?
Liverpool have got themselves into a mess with both Alexander-Arnold and Konate, seeing them leave on free transfers to Madrid, and they cannot afford the same to happen with Szoboszlai.
While keeping hold of him would be the best outcome – Arne Slot has called him the “best in the world” at pressing in the past – he is not a priceless asset for the Reds.
There is arguably even an inevitability about his head being turned by a move to Madrid at some point, so receiving the biggest possible fee now would make far more sense than losing him for less in 2027 or 2028.
As mentioned, though, Szoboszlai will hopefully new a long-term deal at Liverpool, standing out as a possible future captain, but it wouldn’t be the biggest shock to see him depart.
