It has pretty much been an open secret for months now that Enzo Fernandez wants to leave Chelsea this summer. When a player refuses to rule out an exit when asked by the media, when they start naming other cities as dream destinations and when their agent starts talking about exploring options, that is almost always what it means. This is no exception.
It is understandable why Fernandez might want to leave. He joined during the first season of BlueCo as the club owners. And in the years that have followed, Chelsea have just moved around in circles.
World Cup winners like Fernandez will always want to compete at the highest level. Chelsea simply have not done that. So, it is natural for them to want to leave. In fact, an exit has now taken another step closer.
According to TEAMtalk, Spanish reporter Miguel Serrano while speaking on his YouTube channel:
“Real Madrid have reached an agreement with Enzo Fernandez.”
Fernandez reaches agreement with Real Madrid
Of course, the city Fernandez named as his dream future destination was Madrid. Obviously, that raised a lot of eyebrows. The timing was questionable at best, as he was being linked with a move to the Bernabeu.
To be fair, Fernandez has always been linked with a move to Real Madrid, even going back to his time at Benfica. So far, it has not happened. Will that change this summer?
Fernandez seems to have given the green light to a move. And to be honest, players rarely turn down Real Madrid. That does not mean that a move will necessarily take place though.
Real Madrid have not reached an agreement with Chelsea yet. And that could prove to be a lot tougher than agreeing a deal with the player himself. As Serrano said:
“The part of the deal that Real Madrid have not done is an agreement with Chelsea, but there’s a deal with Enzo Fernandez, his agent Javier Pastore, and Real Madrid for him to become a Real Madrid player after the World Cup.
“That agreement doesn’t mean he’s definitely going to play for Real Madrid; it depends on whether the negotiations between Real Madrid and Chelsea are successful. We’ll have to see how much money Real Madrid is willing to offer and how low Chelsea is willing to go.”
What Chelsea want to part ways with Fernandez
It is pretty public what Chelsea want to part ways with Fernandez. It has been suggested by multiple outlets that the club would look for a transfer fee in the region of £120 million.
That might not be a figure even Real Madrid are willing to offer. It has been claimed that they are willing to go as high as €100 million.
So, Real Madrid might need to get creative if they want to sign Fernandez. That might mean including players as part of the deal.
Names like Arda Guler and Dean Huijsen have been doing the rounds lately. They are two of Xabi Alonso’s favourites from his time managing Real Madrid.
