There has been plenty of noise of whether highly rated prospect Joshua Abe would sign a new Liverpool contract.
The 15-year-old has admirers from both Manchester City and Chelsea, and Real Madrid were also suggested as a club looking at the forward.
However, James Pearce of the Athletic has revealed that Abe “has signed scholarship terms with a pre-contract agreement in place for a three-year professional deal to start when he turns 17 in July 2027.”
Pearce adds that well-placed sources say the youngster turned down a contract worth more than £50,000 a week from a Premier League rival in order to leave Liverpool.
After considering his options with his family, he decided that the clearest route into senior football was at Anfield and chose to commit his future to the club instead.
Joshua Abe is set to travel with the first team for next month’s pre-season tour of the United States. The young winger is also poised to receive an official first-team squad number for the 2026-27 campaign.
For Liverpool, securing Abe’s signature represents the successful end to a saga that has rumbled on quietly in the background for much of the season.
The winger has been fast‑tracked through the age groups at Kirkby, training with the senior squad and featuring in the UEFA Youth League while still only 15, and club staff are said to regard him as one of the standout wide prospects of his age in the country.
The expectation is that he will continue to flit between the academy and first team over the next 12 months, with the club carefully managing his workload before that professional deal kicks in when he turns 17 in 2027.
If he handles that step-by-step progression and avoids injuries, he could be pushing for domestic cup minutes before his 17th birthday, giving Liverpool a homegrown wide option with huge resale value further down the line.
