Arsenal news: Marcus Rashford transfer green light as eight stars put up for sale

Arsenal came within two missed penalty kicks of achieving a historic Premier League and Champions League double-winning season. Now Mikel Arteta is preparing to reshape his squad ahead of pursuing further glory next term. With the trophy parade completed, the Gunners are considering reducing their bloated squad.

The likes of Morgan Rogers and Julian Alvarez have already been linked with an audacious switch to the Emirates Stadium, which could cost the north London outfit as much as £200million. However, player departures, alongside other transfer targets, also seem to be high on Arteta's agenda. Express Sport runs through the latest developments around Arsenal...

Eight players up for sale

As many as eight players are expected to be made available for transfer by Arsenal. This clear-out will help finance moves for Arteta's priority transfer targets.

Fabio Vieira and Reiss Nelson, who spent the campaign on loan at Hamburg and Brentford respectively, are two stars anticipated to be sold. BBC Sport have also reported the club will entertain offers for the likes of Christian Norgaard, Ben White and Ethan Nwaneri.

Furthermore, Leandro Trossard, who started the Champions League final, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus may also be offloaded this summer, given the trio will enter the final years of their contracts in July.

Should the aforementioned Arsenal stars be offloaded for substantial fees, much of the revenue could be directed towards Arteta's transfer wishlist. Alongside Rogers and Alvarez, the BBC report that Bournemouth's Eli Junior Kroupi is being considered as an alternative option.

Marcus Rashford given Arsenal green light

Paul Scholes believes Rashford would be tailor-made for Arsenal. The England international is desperately keen to secure a permanent switch to Barcelona, though the Catalans have already snapped up Anthony Gordon and are similarly linked with Alvarez.

It is widely understood that Rashford has no intention of pulling on a United shirt this season, despite remaining under contract at Old Trafford. Should a move to Barcelona fail to come to fruition, Scholes is convinced that Arsenal, who have been strongly linked with the Three Lions forward, would represent the ideal destination.

"Barcelona have a deal in place to buy him but I think they're trying to get him cheaper," Scholes said on The Good, The Bad and The Football podcast.

"That would be a great move, a great move for both parties. I think Arsenal would be a great move for him and the club."
