The West London club can’t match what those clubs offer, and at the top of that list sits Champions League football. The club missed out on European competition entirely this season. That’s a tough sell for any elite defender weighing up his options.
On top of all that, the 27-year-old will be representing France at the 2026 World Cup in North America this summer. His camp is running transfer talks in the background while he preps for the tournament. Waiting around in a bidding war they were unlikely to win just didn’t make sense.
