Liverpool has managed to ward off the interest in Josh Abe, with the promising teenager having now committed his future to the club.

The teenager is one of the new first-year scholars announced by Liverpool for 2026, with a first professional deal lying in wait when he turns 17 next year. Abe is also expected to be part of the Reds’ squad for the pre-season tour to the United States this summer.

Abe has drawn plenty of interest over the past year, with a number of Liverpool’s rivals being linked with his services. He is even reported to have been offered professional terms “in excess of £50k per week” by other teams.

Having turned down those advances though, he will continue his development with the Reds, and will be a player to keep a close eye on in the near future.

Who is Josh Abe?

Abe is a left-footed winger who operates primarily from the right, although he is capable of playing across the front line, and is one of Liverpool’s hottest academy prospects.

He joined Liverpool as an U9s player back in 2018, with Trent Alexander-Arnold on hand to welcome him to the club. The Reds’ former vice-captain has maintained a connection with Abe, with the youngster having signed with the PLG Agency - run by Alexander-Arnold’s brother Tyler - back in January.

The 15-year-old has enjoyed a superb 12 months, having helped Liverpool win the U15 Pape in Germany last summer, before going on to be called up for the Reds’ U18s.

Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.

He made his debut for Simon Wiles’ side in September, and has made quite the impression since then, scoring eight goals and adding three assists in 10 league appearances (as per Transfermarkt), including a hat-trick against Leeds in February.

Abe caught the eye of former Liverpool boss Arne Slot, with the teenager earning a call to train with the first-team in January. He has also represented England at U15 and U16 levels.

Abe has drawn interest from various other Premier League clubs, with Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City having all been linked. A trip to Real Madrid also drew links with the Spanish giant, especially with his connections to Alexander-Arnold.

Having now committed his future to Liverpool though, the Reds will hope Abe can continue his progress over the next year before signing his first professional contract at Anfield.
