Promising English forward Josh Abe has turned down several offers to commit his long-term future to Liverpool, according to the Athletic.
Manchester City and Chelsea and were among the host of Premier League clubs linked with him.
He was reportedly offered a professional deal of up to £50,000 per week from Premier League rivals to leave Liverpool.
He has now signed a scholarship deal and a pre-contract agreement for a three-year professional deal to start when he turns 17 in July 2027.
Abe will be included in the first team squad for next month’s pre-season tour of the United States. He is also set to be given a first-team squad number for the 2026-27 season.
Abe may have been encouraged by Rio Ngumoha’s pathway
Rio Ngumoha left Chelsea for Liverpool after the club promised him a better pathway to the first team.
Ngumoha broke into the Reds’ senior squad last season. He is now the youngest goalscorer in the club’s history and the youngest Liverpool player to score a league goal at Anfield.
The 17-year-old is currently training with England’s World Cup squad in recognition of his development.
Other suitors would have also promised Abe a clear pathway to the first team, but he could have been encouraged by Ngumoha’s meteoric rise to stay with the Merseyside giants.
Abe will have an opportunity to impress Andoni Iraola, who has reached an agreement to become the new Liverpool manager, in pre-season.
