Chipotle is celebrating this year’s NBA championship series by giving away 53,000 free burritos to fans nationwide.
The promotion is part of the chain’s new “53 Years. 53 Real Ingredients.” campaign, which ties together a unique basketball milestone and Chipotle’s focus on real ingredients. According to the company, both teams competing in this year’s championship series share a connection to the number 53.
The New York Knicks won their last championship in 1973, while San Antonio’s basketball journey also began that year. Chipotle says the connection inspired the campaign and its latest giveaway.

Chipotle has been leaning heavily into major sporting events with giveaways this year.

The latest 53,000-entrée giveaway continues that strategy, tying another major championship event to free food for fans.
