SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - EA Sports has announced Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams will be the cover athlete for Madden NFL 27.
Williams is the first player in Chicago Bears history to earn the main English-language Madden cover. [According to NBC Chicago](https://www.nbcchicago.com/chicago-sports-bears-sox-cubs-bulls-blackhawks/bears-caleb-williams-brings-chill-to-madden-cover-makes-bears-history/3943548/), he is not the first Bears player to grace a Madden cover of any kind. That honor belongs to former Bears offensive lineman Roberto Garza, who was on the Spanish language-version of the game in 2009.
The Standard Edition of the cover features Williams’ signature jump pass while the Deluxe Edition features his “Iceman” celebration and custom nail art with the EA Sports logo.

Williams is coming off a high-profile sophomore season and now becomes one of the league’s new faces as the franchise heads into the 2026 season.
But many do not consider this honor to be the best sign for things to come. A long time fan superstition believes those who end up on the cover go on to have some of the worst seasons of their careers in the following year.
Madden NFL 27 is set for a full release on Aug. 13.
