Chelsea are ready to rekindle their pursuit of Mike Maignan this summer, according to a report on Wednesday.
According to Claudio Raimondi on SportMediaset (via MilanNews), Chelsea are looking for a new starting goalkeeper because new manager Xabi Alonso is unhappy with the options in the Blues’ current squad.
The London club have already made an attempt to snatch another Serie A star: Mile Svilar from Roma. They even offered €50m, but the Giallorossi blocked the goalkeeper’s departure and want to keep hold of him.
Back to Mike
Now, Chelsea are ready to make a move for Maignan, whom they already attempted to sign a year ago. The Frenchman – who at the end of January renewed his contract with Milan until 2030 – wants to quickly understand the club’s sporting plan.
Owner Gerry Cardinale decided to revolutionise things after the defeat to Cagliari 10 days ago, but Milan are currently without a sporting director or head coach. These figures must be put in place and a path forward must emerge, otherwise Maignan will begin evaluating the Londoners’ offer.
As a reminder, around one year ago Maignan was open to joining Chelsea ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup, but the Premier League giants never offered a fair transfer fee and so he was taken off the market.
