Aaron Donald Flirts With NFL Return as He Eyes Pairing With Myles Garrett on Same Defense

Aaron Donald is not a stranger to many, being one of the best defensive ends to play in the NFL. He played for 10 seasons in the league after being drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the 2014 NFL Draft.

He spent his entire career playing for them, and is still remembered fondly by many fans. He announced his retirement from the sport back in 2024. However, it looks like he may consider a return.

Aaron Donald hints at NFL return with Myles Garrett

Despite spending two seasons in retirement, Donald has hinted at a return to the NFL. He could potentially choose to come back to play for the Rams once more. It comes as the franchise recently pulled off the blockbuster trade move of Myles Garrett from the Cleveland Browns. In return, the Browns received Jared Verse and along with a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick, and a 2029 third-round pick.

After the trade, Pat McAfee wondered whether Donald would come back to pair up with Garrett. During the latest episode of “The Pat McAfee Show”, he sent a text message to the player about returning to the NFL. According to McAfee, Donald responded positively. He wrote, “It for sure got me thinking. 35, removed two years ago, got to see if that fire can light back up.”

Other than McAfee, he also sent a message to NFL reporter Jordan Schultz. In that message, he wrote, “I’m for sure flirting with the idea. Helluva an opportunity with the Super Bowl in SoFi this year. If I can find the fire, it’s a possibility.”

Other than these two, Donald has relayed similar messages to Michael Brockers and LeSean McCoy. It does seem like Donald is hinting at a return to the franchise, and the Rams could be interested in such a move.

Sean McVay speaks on Aaron Donald return

Donald had a successful time with the Rams, winning one Super Bowl and was Defensive Player of the Year three times. As the franchise competes for the Super Bowl with a statement signing like Garrett, they could add Donald to the mix as well.

Rams head coach Sean McVay responded positively when asked about a potential reunion. He said, “Here’s what I would tell you guys overall, too: Aaron is a guy that I stay really close in touch with, and I know the respect that he has for Myles. Talked to him about the opportunity to bring him on board. If Aaron decides he wants to dust ’em off at the age of 35, I bet you he can still do it at a pretty high clip.”

It remains to be seen whether Aaron Donald ultimately decides to make a return to the NFL.
