Arne Slot lost his job nine months after adding former Newcastle United talisman Alexander Isak to the Liverpool ranks.
Former Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has wished Arne Slot well following his Liverpool departure.
And in a media-trained response when probed on the Dutchman, Isak claimed he is “disconnected” on current events at Anfield. Liverpool surprisingly pulled the trigger earlier this week, with Slot proving the fall guy for an underwhelming season.
The Reds celebrated a Premier League title win just 12 months ago and spent £450million - including £125million on Isak - to revamp the squad. However, few of the signings worked, with Newcastle fans particularly enjoying the demise of their former talisman.
Alexander Isak woes
His refusal to train throughout the summer burned all bridges on Tyneside and meant he was not match-fit for the season ahead. Just three Premier League goals - and four in all competitions - has done little to justify his staggering price tag.
Isak suffered five muscle injuries during his three-year spell at St James’ Park. Newcastle fans tried to warn Liverpool when the transfer saga reached a deadlock last summer.
For context, since joining the Reds, Isak has suffered four muscle injuries and a broken leg. A meagre four strikes also pales in comparison to the 27 he netted in black-and-white stripes the previous year.
Alexander Isak shows promising signs
Just hours after Slot’s departure, Isak showed signs of his Newcastle form with a brilliant solo - albeit consolation - goal for Sweden. The 26-year-old was asked to comment on the news at Liverpool as Andoni Iraola looks set to take charge.
“I’ve kind of disconnected from Liverpool now that I’m here (focusing on the World Cup),” he told Swedish media. “It’s always sad when a coach has to leave. (The manager is) usually the first position to change when things go badly.
“As I said, I don’t know much about what has happened or will happen. I wish him all the best.”
