The New England Patriots traded for former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown on Monday, and there seems to be some concern about his knees.
In 2021, he had surgery on both of his knees. It was a minor cleanup procedure, and he has not missed significant time as a result of the procedure. However, the knee injury is something he's had to manage. Brown himself assured the media that there was no reason to be concerned about his knees.
“No injury. There’s nothing to worry about,” Brown said to reporters, per MassLive's Karen Guregian. “I think this whole little ... you gotta understand where I came from, so any conversation about anything is going to come up.”
Eliot Wolf echoed the sentiment, noting that the Patriots' doctors signed off on his health.
“It’s a factor, but we examined him,” Wolf said, per Yahoo Sports' Jori Epstein. “He's got a knee that has some wear and tear that we were aware of. Our training staff and medical staff signed off on it.”
Wolf did acknowledge that there is some wear and tear, but did not seem to think that there was anything to be worried about. Players are going to get banged up over the course of their career, and it seems like Brown's injury history is not something that's overly concerning for the Patriots.
He's missed a total of 12 games in his career, and most of those were not related to his knee. Those 12 games include games where he was being rested because his team had already clinched playoff positioning.
