The San Antonio Spurs are just hours away from taking the court for Game 1 of the NBA Finals against the New York Knicks at home. The Spurs have been on a tear in these playoffs, recently defeating the reigning champion Oklahoma City Thunder in seven games.
Recently, NBA insider Jake Fischer revealed the Spurs as a team that has had interest in New Orleans Pelicans forward Trey Murphy III.
However, clearly, things have changed.
“Right now, you can kind of check them off of being that. Clearly, San Antonio has a build that has been humming in the right direction all the way to this NBA Finals,” said Fischer, per Bleacher Report.

Indeed, it's hard to imagine the Spurs making any drastic moves this summer, regardless of what happens in their NBA Finals series against the Knicks. Many pundits expect San Antonio to emerge victorious in this matchup, thanks in large part to the presence of Victor Wembanyama, who has been mostly very strong in his first career playoff run.
The Spurs' outside shooters also caught fire in the team's Game 7 win over the Thunder, so the skillset that a player like Murphy III provides would largely be redundant on a team with Julian Champagnie, Devin Vassell, and others.
Against the Knicks, the Spurs will need those players to stay hot from beyond the arc, especially if New York continues their scorching perimeter shooting, which helped them sweep both the Cleveland Cavaliers and Philadelphia 76ers en route to the game's biggest stage.
Game 1 of Spurs vs Knicks is set for Wednesday at 8:30 pm ET. The game will be televised by ABC.
