In honor of the San Francisco 49ers celebrating their 80th anniversary, Sactown Sports is kicking off a countdown of the 80 greatest moments in the franchise’s illustrious history in reverse order called “Faithful Flashbacks.”
From Super Bowl-winning plays to overperforming teams that had minimal expectations, there’s plenty to choose from the team with five titles under its belt.
The voting was conducted by a handful of the Sactown Sports’ staffers before results were compiled into a full list that will count down to the 49ers’ 2026 NFL regular season debut against the Rams in Melbourne, Australia, on September 10th.

Faithful Flashbacks -- San Francisco 49ers 80 Best Moments
The 49ers became one of the NFL’s prestigious franchises in the 1980s, but the facility where that dynasty was built never looked the part.
Before the team moved into a more modern facility in Santa Clara, where they are now, the 49ers called 711 Nevada Street in Redwood City home. Players and staff knew it simply as “7-11,” a modest training complex tucked into a neighborhood that felt notably different than how things are handled today.
Their “7-11” practice facility made our ‘Faithful Flashbacks’ countdown at No. 69.
That contrast is what makes the place so memorable, especially considering the talents that it housed.
The 49ers were winning Super Bowls, building one of the most important offenses in the history of the game, and becoming the gold standard for the rest of the league. Yet, they were practicing at Red Morton Park, surrounded by homes and redwood trees.

Now, it seems like every NFL facility is covered in modern amenities to the point of not. Their previous setup in Redwood City was smaller, more ‘normal’. Somehow, one of the best teams in football was essentially part of the neighborhood there. And that was part of the appeal when looking back on it.
Bill Walsh, Joe Montana, Ronnie Lott, Jerry Rice, Roger Craig, and so many others helped build a dynasty from a facility that, by today’s NFL standards, would be viewed as unacceptable.
The 49ers eventually outgrew that facility and moved to Santa Clara in 1988. An upgrade was probably necessary for what had become one of the more successful NFL franchises by then, but it was also the end of one of the more unique homes in team history.
For our ‘Faithful Flashbacks’ countdown, 711 Nevada Street is included for its unique nature. A quiet, random neighborhood in Redwood City, helping train and bring up Super Bowl Champions.
