Former Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez is expected to be on the move this summer, and new odds suggest his chances of returning to Anfield.

Nunez is set to depart Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal less than 12 months on from his $53 million transfer from Liverpool last August. The Uruguayan has not featured for his club since February after Al-Hilal exceeded its foreign player limit upon signing Karim Benzema. It comes as Federico Chiesa made it very clear how he feels about Arne Slot after he was sacked by Liverpool.

Nunez, who scored nine goals and provided five assists in 24 matches for Al-Hilal before being dropped, has been tipped for a potential return to Liverpool following a tumultuous second season under Arne Slot.

With Slot now fired and Andoni Iraola expected to be announced as the club’s next manager this week, Nunez, who remains beloved among some Reds fans, has emerged as a strong fit for the Spaniard’s high-pressing and direct style of play.

New betting odds suggest that Nunez returning to Merseyside is not as likely as some may hope. At +1000, Liverpool is currently joint-sixth in the odds for Nunez’s next club, level with Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich.

Barcelona is tipped as the favorite to sign Nunez at +300, with the La Liga champions rumored to be interested if the ongoing pursuit of Atletico Madrid star Julian Alvarez falls through.

Newcastle and Chelsea are joint-second in the odds at +600, suggesting there is a real chance Nunez does return to the Premier League if not with Liverpool.

The Magpies just raised significant funds by selling Anthony Gordon to Barcelona for $93.2 million, while Chelsea could well continue their erratic transfer strategy as they seek improvements after coming 10th in the Premier League last season.

Juventus comes in next at +800 to sign Nunez, while Al-Hilal has the same price to retain the Uruguay international. With Nunez set to take part in this summer’s World Cup, interest could very well rise if he performs up to his ability on the global stage.

Nunez endured extreme highs and lows during his three seasons with Liverpool from 2022 to 2025. He scored 40 goals and provided 23 assists in 143 matches for the Reds, 76 of which were starts.

At his best, he is a potent threat at the No. 9 position who can score all types of goals, but his lack of consistency in the final third ultimately forced his transfer away from the club.
