Patriots WR Kayshon Boutte Drawing Trade Interest as Offseason Drama Builds

The New England Patriots spent much of the offseason reshaping their offense around second-year quarterback Drake Maye. New faces arrived in Foxborough, and the competition inside the receiver room intensified almost immediately.

That shifting landscape has raised fresh questions about several returning players, none more pressing than the one surrounding Kayshon Boutte.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirmed on “TheAdam SchefterPodcast” that Boutte has been absent from the Patriots’ voluntary offseason program and has expressed interest in a trade.

“One wide receiver I’m still suspecting that something might happen with is Kayshon Boutte. He has not been there for the offseason program. He has been interested in a trade. I would think that at some point this summer, we may get action there. Another deal, Kayshon Boutte going somewhere else. We’ll see how that works out.”

Boutte entered the offseason hoping to expand his responsibilities under Maye. Those expectations took a direct hit when the Patriots acquired A.J. Brown from Philadelphia and added veteran Romeo Doubs to the depth chart. The former sixth-round pick out of LSU faces a substantially reduced opportunity heading into the regular season, with two established pass-catchers now ahead of him on the depth chart.

Boutte is playing out the final year of his four-year rookie contract, valued at roughly $4 million. He is scheduled to reach free agency after 2026. A diminished role with the Patriots limits his production numbers. The extension will give him leverage as he heads into contract negotiations next offseason. The absence of any completed deal suggests the Patriots have yet to receive an offer it deems sufficient.

One destination drawing attention is the New York Giants. The Giants signaled their own receiver urgency by adding Odell Beckham Jr., Braxton Berrios, and JuJu Smith-Schuster during the same offseason window. Malik Nabers’ health is still a question mark in New York. A cost-controlled option like Boutte, young, fast, and on an expiring deal, fits the profile of what the Giants need.

Training camp has historically served as the trigger point for roster moves involving players in Boutte’s situation. Competitive depth charts and contract realities tend to force the organization’s hand when the pads come on. If another club identifies Boutte as a legitimate contributor rather than depth, the Patriots are unlikely to stand in the way of a deal that returns even modest draft capital.

The receiver’s future remains one of the more compelling subplots of the Patriots’ summer, and Schefter’s report suggests that subplot is moving toward resolution.
