Vikings introduce new general manager Nolan Teasley

The Minnesota Vikings formally introduced Nolan Teasley as their new general manager Wednesday.

“It’s going to take a minute,” Teasley said – pausing for a moment to look around the auditorium at the Vikings’ TCO Center before offering his opening remarks. “This is… this is amazing.”

Teasley, who agreed to terms with the Vikings over the weekend, addressed media for the first time alongside owner Mark Wilf.

“It was always going to take a special opportunity to leave a special place in Seattle,” Teasley said. “As I progressed through this process, it became very clear that the Minnesota Vikings were just that.”

Teasley spent the past 13 seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, where he rose from scouting intern to assistant general manager under GM John Schneider. During that span, Seattle reached the playoffs nine times, appeared in three Super Bowls and won two, including the most recent championship in February.

His climb through the organization helped shape his perspective and leadership style.

“I started as an intern, and so I was able to experience a lot of roles between then and now. So, that’s a lot of experience, and I can relate to people in the room. I’ve been in their shoes,” Teasley said.

When Teasley was seeking his first job to enter the NFL, he sent letters to every NFL franchise. The Seahawks were the only team that replied.

Reminded Wednesday the Vikings were among the many teams who didn’t answer his letter, Teasley laughed, saying, “They did now, I guess!”

Wilf said Teasley’s background and approach made him stand out during the search process, which included five finalists.

“There is no question Nolan Teasley fits each of these criteria, and we are thrilled to add someone of his caliber to our organization,” Wilf said. “He has a strong understanding of talent evaluation at both the collegiate and professional levels, is adept at building a consistently competitive roster and brings a disciplined process-driven approach to this job.”

The introduction also clarified a management structure the Vikings envision moving forward, with Teasley leading football operations alongside O’Connell. Longtime executive Rob Brzezinski – who had been acting as interim GM and was among the five finalists interviewed – will report to Teasley.

“Nolan, as general manager, reports to ownership, as well as the head coach. Rob is part of the football operations organization under Nolan,” Wilf said. “The end result is making sure leaders collaborate, work together, and again, kudos to Rob and the effort he led these past few months, getting our draft process and collaboration working well in the building.”

For O’Connell, who played an active role in the hiring process, Teasley’s experience and overall approach quickly stood out.

“Getting a chance to be a part of the process, it became pretty clear exactly, not only the type of person and leader that we were hiring, but just the football background, understanding the college side, the pro side, how it all works together,” O’Connell said. “That’s all part of his DNA, of his football life, his football journey. That obviously was a big part of it,” O’Connell said.

Teasley echoed that philosophy, describing an approach that blends scouting, analytics and coaching input.

“We’re going to be guided by evaluation, we’re going to be anchored by data,” Teasley said. “And then the final piece… is the coach’s vision for the player.”

Despite arriving after the most active portion of the offseason, Teasley said he believes the Vikings are positioned to compete immediately.

“I believe we’re ready to compete right now, because they’ve been competitive,” he said, citing the team’s 9-8 record last year and five straight wins to end the season.

He also made clear that his immediate priorities include fully evaluating the roster and building relationships throughout the organization.

“I’m committed to building a deep understanding of this roster… and building strong relationships with the coaching staff, with the players and with the people within this organization,” Teasley said.

Teasley replaces Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, who was fired in January after four seasons. He inherits a team that has remained competitive in recent years.

“Our goals are simple,” Teasley said. “We’re going to build the deepest, most competitive roster possible… and ultimately work toward winning the Super Bowl that this fan base deserves.”

Wilf said the introduction of Teasley marks a key step forward for the franchise.

“Putting Nolan together with Rob and Kevin gives us three strong leaders with complementary skill sets,” Wilf said. “We’re confident that this is the best outcome for the Minnesota Vikings.”
