Fulham player alternative to Manchester City man – Talks held during trip to England

Fulham‘s Calvin Bassey and Manchester City‘s Nathan Aké are both options for Fenerbahçe this summer.

The 26-year-old was a regular under Marco Silva while Pep Guardiola didn’t rely much upon the Netherlands international this season.

Bassey played 30 league matches for Fulham. On the other hand, the 31-year-old centre-back made 18 Premier League appearances [five starts] for Manchester City.

The Turkish club are looking to improve their defence and could consider signing either of them.

Fenerbahçe will have a presidential election this weekend and Aziz Yıldırım is one of the contenders for the top job.

On Tuesday, Sport Witness covered claims from Turkey that Yıldırım held talks with the Etihad club over Aké during his trip to England.

Talks also held for Fulham player

Sabah pick up on that and cover the latest on both Manchester City and Fulham players.

Aziz Yıldırım will prioritise strengthening the Yellow Canaries’ defence with Nathan Aké if he were to win the election.

During his trip to England, he held talks with the former AFC Bournemouth’s agent. If the Dutchman were to be against joining the Istanbul club or if there’s no agreement, then Calvin Bassey will be his alternative.

The presidential candidate has also held discussions with the Nigeria international’s agent in London. His plan is to make an official approach for the Fulham player if a move for Aké doesn’t go through.

These two players will only be considered if Yıldırım becomes their new president. The newspaper makes no mention of whether the Manchester City player or the Fulham man are open to joining Fenerbahçe.

Any potential developments will only happen after the outcome of elections on June 7-8th.

New managers could be key

Manchester City and Fulham have seen Pep Guardiola and Marco Silva respectively step down from their roles.

The Premier League duo are in the process of appointing new managers and the incoming bosses could have a say on whether or not to retain Nathan Aké and Calvin Bassey.

Aké has less than 13 months on his contract and Bassey’s deal expires in 2027, with an option for another year.
