“McCoy’s Longevity”: PFF Lists LeSean McCoy as the Best Philadelphia Eagles RB Over the Last 20 …

The Philadelphia Eagles drafted running back LeSean McCoy in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft from the Pittsburgh Panthers. McCoy played in Philadelphia for six NFL seasons. After that, he played for the Buffalo Bills, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. McCoy’s last NFL season was with Tampa Bay in 2020, and they won the Super Bowl that season.

When he was with the Eagles, he rushed for over 1,000 yards four times. McCoy also had over 300 yards receiving or more in five of those six seasons. He was very effective during his time with Philadelphia. Everyone will remember him in his NFL career for the big snow game he had against the Detroit Lions in 2013.

Profootballfocus.com writer Nathan Jahnke created a roster of the Eagles best offensive players and defensive players over the last 20 seasons. There were some very good running backs for Philadelphia in that time span. Along with McCoy, Saquon Barkley, and Brian Westbrook has also suited up for them. Jahnke believes that McCoy was better than both of those players. He said,

“The decision at running back was similarly close. Both players earned first-team All-Pro honors, but McCoy’s longevity during the PFF era gave him the edge. Westbrook’s first four seasons came before the PFF era, including one of his two Pro Bowl campaigns. The Eagles also have another recent first-team All-Pro running back in Saquon Barkley, but his two seasons were difficult to compare with those of players who had twice as many productive seasons in Philadelphia.”

McCoy never won a Super Bowl with the Eagles, but he was always a force in the backfield. McCoy was a top five running back in the sport during his time with the Eagles and the Bills. When Philadelphia won two Super Bowls, they used a running back by committee in the first title and Barkley was the main guy in the second title. McCoy at some point should wind up in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.
