Leeds United were one of multiple clubs that were taking a keen interest in Leicester City’s relegation to League One. The reason being their 16-year-old winger Jeremy Monga.
The 49ers’ summer window is bound to see Leeds explore developing transfer situations that could leave certain players available at a cut price.
Last summer, Leeds swooped to sign James Justin from relegated Leicester City, and it proved an inspired buy. The Foxes, though, have since tumbled into League One.
Leeds United set to miss out on signing Jeremy Monga – £10m Arsenal agreement nears
It wasn’t for a lack of Championship quality that Leicester were relegated to the EFL. Their squad still has plenty of players that are capable of playing higher up the pyramid.
Hence, Leeds were one of several clubs that were keeping tabs on 16-year-old winger Jeremy Monga. The teenager made his debut in the 24/25 season and looked to break into their squad full-time this season.
However, with relegation now confirmed, clubs have been circling to prise the youngster. Unfortunately for Leeds, Monga looks to edging towards a move to the Premier League champions, Arsenal.
That’s according to Football.London’s Tom Canton, who reports that talks are underway between the two clubs. A fee in the region of £10-15million is supposedly being discussed to take Monga to the Emirates.
Leeds United should consider youth investments to strengthen developing Premier League squad
It isn’t a surprise that we’re going to miss out on Monga by the looks of it.
We’re not in a position where we can commit to £15million on a 16-year-old project for the future, like Arsenal clearly can.
That being said, I would like the club to explore emerging talent in the UK to bulk out our U21s, as we did in our previous spell in the Premier League.
Signings like that could save us millions in the future if we make a move well ahead of the curve. Of course, the hit-rate isn’t remarkable, but Leeds should be exploring youthful investments.
