Man Utd and Liverpool 'on alert' to sign £70m-rated PL gem as Chelsea eye intriguing Fernandez…

The latest Premier League transfer news as Man United, Liverpool and Chelsea eye new signings

There are just twelve days left to go until the summer transfer window is open for business, and it’s set to be an enthralling few weeks of wheeling and dealing in the Premier League as top tier clubs look to strengthen their squads. Anthony Gordon has already joined Barcelona from Newcastle, while Man United are closing in on Atalanta midfielder Ederson.

We’ll kick off today’s rumours round-up at Selhurst Park, where Crystal Palace are still bathing in the glory of winning the Europa Conference League last month. Big change is now afoot at the club, with Pierre Sage likely to become their new manager, following Oliver Glasner’s decision to leave for a new challenge.

One player who has been tipped to follow Glasner out the exit door is star midfielder Adam Wharton, who will have been gutted to just miss out on a place in England’s World Cup squad, with veteran Jordan Henderson preferred. Liverpool have been heavily linked with the ex-Blackburn Rovers gem, but a fresh report from Football Insider suggests he could stay put.

The story says that Palace fancy their chances of convincing the 22-year-old to remain at the club for one more season. However, the article then, rather cheekily it must be said, reveals its claims are based on those made one of Man United’s former chief scouts, who merely states factors such as the new manager arriving and Europa League football as ones which could convince the player to stay.

The 3AM Verdict: This feels like a bit of a non-story, to be honest. It’s dressed up as if it’s giving some insight into Wharton’s situation, but turns out to be just some assumptions made based on an outsider’s quotes. Sure, Wharton could indeed stay, but nothing in that article provides any meaningful indication as to whether or not it will happen.

Man United and Liverpool ‘on alert’ for Everton gem

Up in the North West, Manchester United and Liverpool both managed to secure Champions League football for next season, and look set for a busy summer of rebuilding their respective squads. Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye is thought to be a player of interest to both clubs, as his apparent reluctance to sign a new contract continues to frustrate his club.

That’s according to Team Talk, who say that while the Toffees are “relaxed and in full control” of the situation, with the player’s contract not set to expire until 2029, Man United and Liverpool are keeping an eye on the situation as the impasse continues. The story also claims that Ndiaye is keen to have a release clause inserted in his contract, but so far the club have been unwilling to allow the modification.

Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal are also mentioned as potentially interested parties, among with some unnamed clubs further afield in Europe. The article continues to stress that the Toffees are in the driving seat, but also maintains that interest in the Senegal international will continue to grow as the stalemate continues. He’s previously been valued at around £70m.

The 3AM Verdict: Our cynical ‘agent making their client’s dissatisfaction known via the press’ sense is tingling, and probably justifiably so. If Ndiaye isn’t satisfied with his terms at Everton, he could well be agitating for a breakthrough in negotiations or indeed a move, especially with the club failing to qualify for Europe yet again. Our money is still on the player signing a new deal eventually, however.

Chelsea eye potential Fernandez replacement

To close proceedings, we’re off to Stamford Bridge, where Chelsea are mulling over a number of squad changes this summer. New boss Xabi Alonso is set to ring in the changes, after expensively assembled, horribly disjointed squad of raw young talent finished the 2025/26 Premier League season all the way down in tenth place.

Vice-captain Enzo Fernandez looks like he’ll be bidding farewell to Stamford Bridge, meaning the Blues will have a hole in their midfield that they’ll need to plug. Reports from Argentina (via Sport Witness) claim that Alonso has earmarked Bayer Leverkusen’s Exequiel Palacios as an ideal signing to bolster the squad’s numbers in the middle of the park.

The report suggests that the pair have a “strong relationship” stemming from when Alonso managed Palacios during his time with the Bundesliga side, and that he was considering taking him to Real Madrid when he joined the Spanish giants last year. There is no mention of a potential transfer fee, or whether his club are willing to entertain offers.

The 3AM Verdict: This one feels a bit speculative, really. Of course,Alonso may have an interest in bringing in some of his former players, but we’ve seen nothing to suggest that he’s targeting Palacios specifically. It’s worth noting that the 27-year-old missed much of last season through injury, making only 12 Bundesliga starts and providing a solitary assist.
