By all accounts, Victor Wembanyama is on the verge of greatness. At only 22 years old, the 7-foot-4 San Antonio Spurs center and power forward carried his team to the 2026 NBA Finals. Yet it was just two years ago that the French basketball star, fondly known as “Wemby” to fans, was named as the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft in 2023.
“Accomplishing something I've dreamed of my whole life,” he told ESPN at the time. “Hearing that sentence from Adam Silver, I've dreamed of it so much.” His siblings, Oscar and Eve, were just as emotional in their support for their brother. “We’re all so proud. We’re very happy for you,” Eve told Victor during the telecast.
Here, get to know Victor Wembanyama’s family:
Meet Victor’s dad, Félix Wembanyama:
Born in Belgium and of Congolese origin, Félix is a former track and field athlete. Standing at 6 feet 6 inches tall, Félix competed in the high jump, long jump, and triple jump. He acquired French nationality in 2003, less than a year before Victor was born in January 2004.

Félix's influence on Victor's development was less about basketball and more about discipline. “You know, there’s a correct way of running. And he taught me things like that,” Victor told Euroleague Basketball of his father. Around age 10, Victor even spent a year competing on a track and field team himself. “Dad gave me the passion for knowing subjects in depth,” Victor told Slam Online, “being a real technician of sports, of whatever I do.”

While the family appears to be close knit, it is Félix who is most often photographed court-side at Spurs games. In an emotional postgame moment last month, Victor was seen hugging his father on the arena floor after the Spurs won Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals.

Élodie, at 6-foot-3, is a former member of the French national basketball team. She now coaches young children in the sport, and is the parent Victor credits with introducing him to basketball. “She teaches basketball to really young players, like, from four to 10 or something like that. But for performance, I never trained with her,” Victor told Euroleague Basketball. “It’s not that she doesn’t want to get involved in my performance, but she knows her role. You know what I mean? And she knows as a parent sometimes it’s better to fade off or not to get too much involved in your children’s path.”
Victor spent much of his early childhood at whichever gym Élodie was coaching in at the time. “I mean, I had the choice and I still have the choice to play or not play basketball, but basketball has always been around," he told Slam Online. “I can't avoid it in my family." He also describes a resemblance that goes beyond the physical. “She’s more like me. We really look alike, and she’s kind of eccentric sometimes.”

At 6-foot-1, Eve has carved out her own career in the sport, competing across Europe for clubs including MB Zaglebie Sosnowiec in Poland, KBF Peja 03 in Kosovo, and Monaco Basket Association, while also representing France in FIBA 3x3 competition. Eve, now 24, had followed a path similar to her mother’s, competing on the youth national teams at the FIBA U16 Women’s European Championship in 2017—which France won—and the FIBA U20 Women’s European Challengers in 2021.

Victor may not be the last Wembanyama to join the NBA. Oscar, 19, stands 6-foot-7 and has drawn considerable attention as a prospect in the French basketball system, having come up through clubs including ASVEL and Nanterre 92 before joining SIG Strasbourg’s Espoirs Élite squad.
The youngest of the three siblings, Oscar initially played handball before switching to basketball. “In my city, all my friends did it. That’s what made me appreciate the sport. I think I was considered a prospect, you could say,” Oscar told Euroleague Basketball in 2023. “I played very little basketball, just with my mother because she organized training courses for children.” He ended up getting into basketball more seriously during the pandemic lockdown period.
He is not currently projected as a top-30 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, though a late second-round selection is possible if he declares early. The Spurs hold three second-round picks in the upcoming draft, which has not been lost on San Antonio fans hoping for a family reunion in the Alamo City. No decision on his draft status had been announced as of the end of the beginning of the 2026 NBA Finals.
