Mayor Zohran Mamdani has jokes.
The New York City mayor went viral on Wednesday, June 3, for his invite to San Antonio Spurs' Victor Wembanyama amid the NBA Finals.
“I'm pleased to invite @Wemby to our second Commission on Government Efficiency hearing on Wednesday June 10th 5-8pm, where we'll be asking the public for their thoughts on how government can run better. Would love to have you there for the whole time!” Mayor Mamdani wrote on X.
While it will be impossible for Wemby to attend the invitation by Mayor Mamdani since he will be facing the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals, several fans did not catch on to his joke.
“Who cares what he thinks? He doesn't even live in New York,” one fan asked.
However, several fans caught on that Wemby will be at Game 4 of the NBA Finals during that time and will have to decline Mamdani's invitation.
“The number of people who don’t get the joke that Wemby is playing a game during this time is hilarious,” one fan wrote.

Now that the Knicks and Spurs are at the center of attention, when asked what he thinks of the spotlight, Wemby did not seem phased.
“It doesn't motivate me,” Wembanyama said Tuesday (June 2) to reporters. “At the end of the day, only 20,000 people fit in the arena. So it doesn't really remake a difference.”
Instead, he is ready to refocus and look forward to the big game.
“The emotion was really something I haven't felt in a while, I won't even know since when,” Wembanyama said amid his emotional response following the Western Conference Finals. “And coming back down from this is a challenge. And it’s not done yet.
“We still need to really come back down to Earth and realize that we haven't done the hardest yet. The job isn't done at all. So we’ve still got about — I don't know, what time is it? — 30-plus hours to re-center.”
The Spurs will take on the Knicks in Game 1 of the NBA Finals at home at the Frost Bank Center tonight (June 3) at 8:30 pm ET.
