Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is one of three Red Bull executives who are “convinced” that Yan Diomande won’t be leaving Leipzig this summer, according to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg.

Both the Reds and Paris Saint-Germain are vying for the Ivorian’s signature, but posting on X, Plettenberg said there is confidence that he will remain in Germany and put pen to paper on a new deal:

“RB Leipzig remain relaxed. Oliver Mintzlaff, Jurgen Klopp and Marcel Schafer are convinced that Diomande will stay for at least another year and sign a new contract on improved terms.”

It is believed that Leipzig could offer a release clause as an incentive to entice Diomande into signing on the dotted line.

Liverpool are hoping to do a deal quickly

Plettenberg has reiterated claims made elsewhere by Sky Germany that sporting director Richard Hughes wants to secure the signing of Diomande before the beginning of the World Cup next week.

That seems pretty ambitious for a couple of reasons. Firstly, the Reds face stiff competition for the 19-year-old.

Secondly, Leipzig are under no pressure to sell him for a discounted price after qualifying for the Champions League. They are expected to demand at least €100m (£86m).

Are there any alternatives to Diomande?

Diomande is clearly the top target, but Hughes will have put contingency plans in place if the winger does join PSG or opts to stay with his current team.

Bradley Barcola is thought to be the main alternative, but the 23-year-old is only likely to be available if Diomande moves to Paris.

Other names such as Diomande’s teammate Antonin Nusa, Lille’s Matias Fernandez-Pardo and AC Milan’s Rafael Leao may also come under consideration.
