Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama near injury has fans checking their pulses

The action is heating up in Game 1 of the NBA Finals between the San Antonio Spurs and New York Knicks. Both teams know what is on the line, and every game matters. This means that they're treating every possession like it's the most valuable thing ever. This has led to some very physical play from both teams, with Jalen Brunson already suffering his fair share of knocks in the early goings of Game 1.

In the third quarter, it was Victor Wembanyama's turn to suffer what looked like a concerning injury. He got tangled up with Josh Hart and proceeded to limp towards the bench, causing Spurs fans to wait with anxiousness regarding Wembanyama's well-being. But later on, the ABC broadcast showed that Wembanyama was waving off medical help on the bench, which should mean that the Spurs star is good to go.

Indeed, Wembanyama did return to the floor in the third quarter of Game 1 after the Knicks had cut into the Spurs' double-digit lead. Even then, the Spurs star has looked far from his best all night long. He's been unable to zoom past Karl-Anthony Towns off the dribble, and he hasn't quite consistently made the difficult shots he's been taking from midrange all night long.

Wembanyama did show some burst towards the end of the third quarter, when he exploded for a left-handed full extension dunk after blowing by Mitchell Robinson. The Spurs star has shown some incredible durability in this year's playoffs, and it will take a lot to keep him off the floor with the stakes being at their highest in the NBA Finals.

At the time of writing, the Knicks have regained the lead over the Spurs in the fourth quarter and are even threatening to pull away. Wembanyama has 18 points and eight boards, but he's struggled from the field to the tune of 4-15 shooting.
