Chelsea expected to 'push again' to sign £100m-rated superstar as Newcastle United eye…

The latest Premier League transfer news and involving Chelsea, Aston Villa, Leeds United, Newcastle and more

How much longer must we wait? We’re on the brink of both the 2026 World Cup and the summer transfer window, with both major events set to get underway by the middle of this month. Time has come to a standstill, as we desperately tune in to watch Wales play Ghana in a poorly attended midweek friendly, and scan the gossip columns in hope of a juicy morsel or two to see us through the drought.

Soon, this dismal state of limbo will be but a distant memory, as the carnival of international football gets underway in North America, and summer dealing in the Premier League begins simultaneously. Just seven more sleeps to go - we can make it. And in the meantime, why not settle down to see what pre-window transfer rumours have been doing the rounds?

We’ll kick off today’s gossip round-up at St. James’ Park, where Newcastle United are set for a hectic few weeks as they look to improve their side. The Magpies had a largely underwhelming 2025/26 season, which saw them fail to win a trophy and finish all the way down in 12th in the Premier League.

They’ll be looking to get their recruitment spot-on this summer, and fresh reports from Portugal (via Sport Witness) suggest Racing Santander full-back Jorge Salinas has captured their interest. The 19-year-old plays down in the second tier of Spanish football, but is starting to make a name for himself, having excelled in the competition last season.

The report namechecks the Magpies alongside a host of European clubs, including the likes of Bayer Leverkusen, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, as sides apparently keen on the young talent. No mention is made of any club making a move just yet, nor is it specified where the player may wish to go.

The 3AM Verdict: It looks to be very early days on this one. Newcastle are said to have an interest, but so are another half a dozen clubs. The Magpies have started to branch into signing talented youngsters, which is a bracket Salinas very much fits into, but if he were to be purchased it seems unlikely that he’d be a first team regular straight away.

Chelsea could reignite Rogers interest

Over to Stamford Bridge, where Chelsea are said to be keeping a keen eye on long-term target Morgan Rogers. In a detailed piece from The Athletic, the Blues’ interest in the England star is discussed alongside other potential suitors including Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Man United, ahead of what could prove to be the summer’s biggest transfer saga.

Despite the Blues’ struggles last season, the report suggests that those close to Villa “expect them to push again this summer”. The Blues’ lack of Champions League football isn’t thought to be an issue, and the article notes that Chelsea’s recruiter Joe Shields has a long-standing history with Rogers going back to their time spent at Man City’s academy.

The report goes on to note that the club could be pressured into a sale to ease their PSR situation, but that the player is in no way pushing for an exit or looking to agree terms with other clubs at this stage. It’s suggested that a fee in the £100m ballpark may be required for Villa to consider selling the 23-year-old sensation.

The 3AM Verdict: We’re expecting this one to rumble on for the next few weeks, with no clear front-runner to sign Rogers at this stage. The report notes that Man United may be ruled out due to spending their money in other areas, while Liverpool are also prioritising different signings. If it’s a shootout between Chelsea and Arsenal, we’d back the latter to get the deal done.

Leeds United could snatch Barcelona prospect

To round things off, we’ll saunter down to Elland Road, where Leeds United will be looking to re-establish themselves as a Premier League staple after avoiding relegation last season. Attacking options are likely to be on the menu when it comes to transfer activity, and the club have now been linked with an intriguing move for Barcelona youngster Roony Bardghji.

Every Football Manager player’s favourite wonderkid hasn’t quite made the grade since joining the Catalan giants from Kobenhavn last summer, and Team Talk claim that his club could be ready to cut ties with the Sweden international after less than a year. Leeds are said to be “well positioned to take advantage” of the situation, while Brighton, Everton, Aston Villa, Sunderland and Brentford are all also namechecked as potential destinations.

The 3AM Verdict: If Barcelona’s asking price is reasonable - it’s not referenced in the article - then Leeds could do a lot worse than take a gamble on Bardghji, who is still a highly-rated young talent despite an underwhelming first season in La Liga. The player is said to prefer a loan deal rather than a permanent switch, which could work well for Leeds who could essentially try before they buy.
