Chelsea intermediaries make transfer approach–Willing to spend€50m

Chelsea need a new goalkeeper next season and have stepped up efforts to sign AS Roma’s Mile Svilar.

The Serbian has become one of the best keepers in Serie A over the past two campaigns. He has become a leader between the sticks, showing reliable ability on the ball and when coming off his line.

Despite that, his future at Roma is in question. This is because of financial troubles, which are forcing Roma to make significant sales by the end of this month.

Sport Witness have previously covered Newcastle United’s interest in Svilar. The Magpies haven’t stepped forward but Chelsea have.

Blues knock on Roma’s door

Corriere dello Sport report that Roma now view Svilar as probably their most important player. They feel it is easy to sign replacements for Manu Kone or Evan Ndicka in the market but very few guarantee the same solidity as the Serbia international.

This is the stance put forward to Chelsea as well.

Intermediaries from the Blues knocked on Roma’s door about signing the 26-year-old. They appeared keen, with Xabi Alonso very interested in signing a new goalkeeper.

Chelsea were willing to pay as much as €50m but the door has been closed.

Svilar would solve Blues’ problems

The Serbian rarely puts a foot wrong, which makes it no surprise that Chelsea want him.

If the London side can afford to, they should make a huge offer. While Roma are putting up a strong stance, Svilar’s sale can entirely end their financial worries. Otherwise, they could settle with selling two or three key players in a short space of time.

The only drawback for Chelsea is the lack of European football. Gian Piero Gasperini’s side will play in the Champions League and Svilar would want to return to the competition.
