When it comes to the NFL cash is king and far more important to see what they might do compared to the focus people put on salary cap. So I thought I would do a piece looking at what money they have left in 2026 after the Myles Garrett trade and then how much that opens up for the 2027 off season.
They tend to spend just over 120% of salary cap as this is what the team can realistically spend year on year in terms of cash. If we look at the 2026 season this is likely to be around $362,102,640 on a salary cap of $301,200,000. Then in 2027 using a projected salary cap of $325,600,000 their likely spending budget is $391,436,320.
The Cleveland Browns have made plenty of mistakes in where they spend this money, Deshaun Watson is the obvious example at $46m a year. Not turning over the offensive line a year ago as they thought they could get one final year out of them. But one thing is undeniable, the owner has opened his wallet and spent, which is the biggest factor an owner can generally control when it comes to a team in the NFL.
I will go with the most expensive/established players for now and then if they move off of a player like Dawand Jones for KT Leveston then it will be a saving for the team but these moves are always marginal to the bigger spending picture.
