All at CCFPA (no less than the whole Sky Blue family) wish our fairly new member, forceful and prolific recent Swedish international Sky Blue striker, Viktor Gyökeres, a very Happy Birthday! He celebrates his 28th today.

Born in Stockholm on 4th June 1998 ‘Vik’ joined the Association in February 2024 after the crowd favourite moved in July 2023 from the Sky Blues to spend a couple of very successful seasons in Portugal with Premeira Liga side Sporting CP. The Swedish international signed a five year contract for them reportedly paying CCFC a record €20 million (plus €4 million in bonuses). Vik was the Association’s ‘Player of the Season’ twice in a row in 2021-22 and 2022-23 and notched a wonderful 40 goals in his 97 Sky Blue appearances (plus 3 in 19 in his prior loan spell), many of them memorable strikes.

The beneficiary of a goal based bonus clause from the transfer contract CCFC were waiting with interest to see if ‘Vik’ moved on again as we reportedly CCFC would be owed up to 10% from any future onward sale. As we now know Vik moved back to the UK with Arsenal in July 2025 for £64m on an 5 year deal after netting a stupendous 82 goals in 85 games for Sporting.

In May 2025 Vik made his 100th appearance for Sporting, confirming their top spot in the league and a week later scored the winning goal in a 2–0 victory to take the title – his and their second consecutive Primeira League title. He also finished as the top flight’s top scorer (with a magnificent 39 goals) again picking up the Portuguese ‘golden boot’ award. Another week later he was a scorer as Sporting took the Cup winning their first Portuguese Double since 2001-02!

After gradually easing into the Gunners team Vik has played an important part in the club’s taking of the Premier League title in the season just completed. He made his debut for The Gunners on 17th August in a 1-0 victory against Manchester United, the opening game of the 2025/26 season. In early May 2026 Gyökeres scored his 20th goal of the season, the first time an Arsenal player had reached that tally in their debut season since Alexis Sánchez in the 2014–15 season, with Arsenal winning the 2025–26 Premier League title a few weeks later.

He and they will be very disappointed they have also just missed out on being crowned Champions of Europe after their narrow defeat on penalties to French club PSG in the Champions League Final at the end of this May.

Vik has represented his country since 2015 from U19 level to Full Caps from 2019. He has a magnificent strike rate forSweden, 15 goals in 26 games so far!

Vinnie presents CCFPA badge & tie to Vik

CCFPA’s Sarah Morris had been laying plans for several weeks to get Viktor to sign up with Richard Overson, a club Vice President and an Association Corporate Member last year. Richard was due to go out to Portugal and had arranged a meet-up with Vik to finalise his recruitment. Sarah had prepared a welcome pack for the taciturn Swede including his membership badge, tie and Golf Cap. Sadly, at the last minute, CCFC’s fixture changes prevented Richard making the trip to Portugal personally but colleague and friend Vincent Newton made the trip instead meeting up with Vik and the striker did the honours (pictured left).

Thanks to Richard and Vinnie for their help in signing up Vik and Happy 28th Birthday big man – next season is bound to be yet another tremendous year for you!

We hope it will not be too long before he is be able to return to see us at a Sky Blue game or CCFPA function when his playing and other commitments allow.
