New York Knicks head coach Mike Brown praised the team's fan base after their 105-95 win over the San Antonio Spurs in Game 1 of the NBA Finals, pointing to the strong presence of traveling supporters in the arena.
Even though the game was played in San Antonio, Knicks fans showed up in numbers and made their voices heard throughout the night, especially during key moments of the fourth quarter as New York closed out the win.
After the game, Brown made sure to acknowledge their impact.
"Our fans have been fantastic. They've been fantastic on the road. And to see them around San Antonio [and] to hear them in the arena, I've got to give a shout out," Brown told reporters afterward.
The Knicks improved to 7-1 in the playoffs with the victory, extending their winning streak to seven straight games and moving just two wins away from matching an NBA postseason record.
On the court, New York had to fight back from an early deficit, trailing 27-19 after the first quarter as the Spurs started strong at home. The Knicks then slowly took control, leveling the game by the third quarter before finishing the job in the fourth.
A strong 29-19 final period sealed the win and gave the Knicks a 1-0 lead in the NBA Finals.
