Although the draft happened over a month ago, there could be one more quarterback prospect to find a home before the 2026 season begins. Brendan Sorsby, widely thought of as a top candidate in the 2027 draft class, could be forced to enter the supplemental draft if he’s unable to regain his collegiate eligibility for the 2026 season.
It’s not clear yet whether that will happen. But if Sorsby has to enter the supplemental draft, NFL Draft analyst Tony Pauline is hearing he’ll have significant interest.
“Multiple sources inside the league tell me if QB Brendan Sorsby of@TexasTechFB is unable to regain eligibility for the ’26 college season & forced to enter a supplemental draft, he will be a late 1st/early 2nd round pick depending on the order. Presently, Sorsby is graded higher than Arch Manning by several area scouts as we head towards the season,” Pauline wrote in a tweet posted Wednesday.

Presently Sorsby is graded higher…

Sorsby was set to play for Texas Tech in 2026, but a gambling scandal has put his eligibility in jeopardy. A decision on his eligibility is expected this week. If Sorsby is ruled ineligible, he’d have until later this month to enter the supplemental draft.
Obviously, the gambling situation may be a red flag for some teams. But on the field, Brendan Sorsby has a ton of potential. Pauline notes some scouts grading him higher than Arch Manning. He has impressive arm talent, able to drive the ball to all areas of the field, while also putting some nice touch on balls in the intermediate areas. He’s got a bigger frame for the position, yet also has enough speed to make an impact as a runner. His consistent mechanics and lack of turnover-worthy plays are also noteworthy.
Sorsby has many traits that NFL teams would love. However, the supplemental draft is a little risky. It works more as an auction than the NFL Draft, with teams able to bid on players with draft picks. If a team bids a first-round pick on Sorsby and wins his rights, that team would lose its first-round pick in the 2027 draft.
It doesn’t seem like the Steelers would be a major player for Sorsby. They’ve never selected a player in the supplemental draft before. And it wouldn’t make a ton of sense now, with Will Howard and Drew Allar already in the building.
However, Brendan Sorsby could have major implications on the 2027 quarterback class. A class the Steelers may have interest in. If he’s selected in the supplemental draft, that’s one less prospect available in the first round. And it would also mean there’s one less team looking for a quarterback that early. It’s certainly a situation worth keeping an eye on.
