Russell Wilson Had Six Words for NFL After Retirement Announcement

The NFLhas congratulated Russell Wilson on his 14-year career. The quarterback gracefully received the message and responded with a six-word response for the league.

Wilson announced his retirement on Wednesday in a video reflecting on his football journey. He thanked his family, friends, teammates and fans for the support they gave him.

The 37-year-old hung up his cleats for good as a 2014 Super Bowl champion, 10-time Pro Bowler, two-time NFC champion and 2012 Rookie of the Year. He also earned the 2020 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year and received a second-team All-Pro nod in the previous year.

Wilson's short but meaningful message to the NFL came with a graphic from CBS Sports. He shared it via an Instagram story, flexing his list of achievements and awards. It ended with the statement "1 legendary career."

The Seattle Seahawks icon used the opportunity to express his appreciation to the league.

"Thank you @NFL God is faithful!" Wilson wrote.

Wilson entered the league as the No. 75 overall pick in the third round in 2012. He suited up for the Seahawks, Denver Broncos, Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants.

The potential future Hall of Famer recorded a 58.0% completion rate for 46,966 yards, 353 touchdowns and 114 interceptions.

Wilson won't be on the field anymore, but he will not be away from football entirely. He announced that he will move to the broadcast studio as one of CBS Sports' analysts for the network's Sunday pregame show.

His experience competing at the highest level and familiarity with what happens behind the scenes will be valuable when discussing upcoming matchups.
