Dominik Szoboszlai wins Liverpool’s Player of the Season award for 2025/26

Dominik Szoboszlai has been officially named Liverpool’s Player of the Season for 2025/26, after a landslide vote in the Hungarian midfielder’s favour.

Szoboszlai was announced as Liverpool’s Men’s Player of the Season on Thursday after a fan vote that saw him backed by over two-thirds.

It is the first time he has won the award and comes after winning the club’s Player of the Month prize on five occasions in the campaign just gone.

The midfielder made 53 appearances, all as a starter, in 2025/26 with only Virgil van Dijk and Alexis Mac Allister playing more games and only Van Dijk clocking more minutes.

Szoboszlai was also Liverpool’s second-top goalscorer with 13 – behind only Hugo Ekitike (17) – and their leading assist-maker with 12.

Per FotMob, the 25-year-old created the most chances (78) and big chances (14) of any Liverpool player in the Premier League, as well as topping the charts for expected assists (6.8).

Liverpool’s Player of the Season prize has been dominated by Mo Salah over the past decade, with the Egyptian winning five of the last 10 awards including four of the last five.

He has been denied a three-season streak this time around with Szoboszlai becoming the 15th different player to win the fan vote since it was introduced in 2001/02.

Liverpool are in talks with Szoboszlai’s representatives over a new contract beyond his current deal, which expires in 2028.

The expectation is that the No. 8 will put pen to paper as one of the leaders of Andoni Iraola‘s new-look side but there are clearly no guarantees.

Szoboszlai will be among the first to report back to the AXA Training Centre for pre-season having missed out on a place at the World Cup with Hungary.
