Andoni Iraola lands in Liverpool– Video

Andoni Iraola’s Liverpool era has effectively begun, with new footage circulating on social media showing the Basque coach arriving in the city ahead of his official unveiling as head coach at Anfield.

The video, filmed by Redmen TV and shared widely across X, shows the Spaniard’s convoy heading to the AXA. Keen-eyed supporters tracked his flight from San Sebastian to Liverpool this morning on FlightRadar.

Liverpool have already reached an agreement in principle with Iraola on a two-year contract, in line with the coach’s long‑standing preference for shorter deals that keep both sides hungry and accountable.

Assistant coach Tommy Elphick is expected to follow Iraola to Liverpool. He will be joined by fellow assistant Shaun Cooper, who has worked closely with Iraola on defensive structure and out‑of‑possession organisation, as well as lead analyst Tom Webber.

Fitness coach Pablo de la Torre is also set to make the move.

There has also been speculation that Liverpool could add a familiar face to Iraola’s staff, with former midfielder Thiago Alcântara repeatedly mentioned as a potential addition in a bridge role between the new regime and the club’s recent past.

However, Paul Joyce has already ruled out that link – at least for now.

Meanwhile, Iraola himself explained back in 2025 why he only signs two-year deals:

I want to continue because both sides are happy and they want to continue together. “The manager’s case is as important as the players’ cases, because at the end, you have to get the results.”

“I could have whatever contract I have, but if I don’t get the results, in three or four months I will be in danger. “So I try to focus on the short-term – do your job, get your results and then normally everything is fine. In Spain, it’s probably different – with Rayo, I used to renew a lot of times after the season, but I understand it is different in England.”
