Victor Wembanyama finished the Game 1 of the NBA Finals with a team-high 26 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks, becoming the fourth player since blocks became an official statistic in 1974 to record that line in his NBA Finals debut, joining Shaquille O’Neal, Hakeem Olajuwon and Elvin Hayes.
San Antonio Spurs young superstar Victor Wembanyama achieved a historic feat in his NBA Finals debut, despite a disappointing 105-95 loss to the New York Knicks in Game 1.
Wembanyama finished with a team-high 26 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks, becoming just the fourth player since blocks became an official statistic in 1974 to record that line in his Finals debut, according to ESPN.
The 22-year-old joined Shaquille O’Neal in 1995, Hakeem Olajuwon in 1986 and Elvin Hayes in 1975 as the only players to accomplish the feat.
Despite leading the Spurs in both points and rebounds, Wembanyama struggled against New York’s physical defense.
He shot just 6-of-21 from the field and committed six costly turnovers in 38 minutes.
Game 2 of the series will be played Friday at 8:30 p.m. ET in San Antonio.
